West Virginia State University Extension Service to Host Workshops on Tree Pruning March 26 and 29

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) Extension Service
will
host hands-on training in proper tree pruning techniques Friday, March 26, and Monday, March
29,
from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the WVSU campus in Institute, as part of a hybrid workshop that
includes a virtual presentation covering basic biology concepts relating to pruning cuts and
methods.

When Dr. Ami Smith, Director of Extension at WVSU, first set foot on the campus in
1998,
she was a single mother with a full-time retail job and a goal of obtaining an undergraduate
degree. Two decades later, her path as a Yellow Jacket has led her from the classroom to the

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, West Virginia State University (WVSU) announced

will join Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12), the Bipartisan Congressional HBCU Caucus, and
numerous members of Congress and leaders from Historically Black Colleges and Universities
(HBCUs) for the fourth annual HBCU STEAM Day of Action, to be held virtually March

West Virginia State University Youth STEM Camps Adjust to Pandemic Realities

Last year, West Virginia State University’s (WVSU) Center for the Advancement
of STEM (CASTEM) shifted face-to-face youth science outreach efforts to the virtual arena in
the
wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, rolling out multiple virtual STEM programs that
targeted
middle and high school students from rural and underserved regions of the state.
