West Virginia State University (WVSU) will host a free lecture by Dr. Noelle J. Umback
Tuesday, March 5, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Wallace Hall auditorium on the
University’s Institute campus. Umback serves as a Criminalist with the New York City
Office of Chief Medial Examiner and has worked on the DNA identification team for the World
Trade Center project.

WVSU Extension Service will host its first-ever FFA Speech Competition, as part of the
forthcoming West Virginia Urban Agriculture Conference and Community Expo being held on the
University’s Institute campus in May.

West Virginia State University (WVSU) biology major Sarah Greenberg has received the
inaugural Justin Smith Morrill Scholarship. The $2,500 scholarship is awarded by the 1890
Universities Foundation to students studying food and agricultural sciences.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Governor Jim Justice has announced that the week of March 18-22,
2019, is severe Weather Awareness Week in West Virginia. A statewide tornado drill will occur
on
Tuesday, March 19 at 10:30 a.m. throughout the State of West Virginia. Kanawha County will be
participating in this drill.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Kanawha County & Charleston Homeland Security
Emergency Management, Metro 911, and the West Virginia State University Department of Public
Safety will be conducting a shelter-in-place drill today, Wednesday, February 27, at
approximately 12:00 p.m.

The West Virginia State University men’s basketball game against Fairmont State
University on Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. will be televised live throughout the region on AT&T
SportsNet Pittsburgh.

West Virginia State University (WVSU) Extension Service will host a free series of
workshops on entrepreneurial farming and food manufacturing throughout Kanawha County
beginning
Feb. 20 in Charleston. The series leads into the upcoming West Virginia Urban Agriculture
Conference and Community Expo, taking place on the University’s campus in May.

Nine West Virginia State University (WVSU) student research projects will be showcased at the State Capitol as part of the 16Annual Undergraduate Research Day Tuesday, Feb. 26.

WVSU Extension Service is helping entrepreneurs launch their business ideas with two
new
sessions of the Opening Soon Inc. business development training program for new and existing
businesses. Sessions will take place Feb. 16 and Feb. 19 at the WVSU Economic Development
Center
(EDC) on Charleston’s West Side.
