                            Yellow jacket summer scholars program

The Yellow Jacket Summer Scholars Program (YJSSP) is a 5-week long academic enrichment program that is dedicated to preparing students for success in college-level coursework. Our hands-on curriculum allows students to partner with their instructors to target areas of weakness in English and mathematics. Through practice and guided instruction, students will demonstrate growth in these subjects such that would make their transition to college-level coursework seamless. Co-curricular activities and field experience are woven throughout the program to supplement course material and allow for students to understand the relevance of the course content in real world settings.

In addition to the academic rigor of the program, Summer Scholars will go through a series of leadership training workshops wherein they will learn the foundations of leadership. Participants will take the Strengths Finder assessment to identify their personal strengths and capitalize on ways to serve in a leadership capacity at West Virginia State University.
