INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- The West Virginia State University (WVSU) College of Business and Social Sciences will host its annual Business, Economics and Government Summit March 26-28, 2018, at the University’s Erickson Alumni Center.

The theme for the 2018 summit is “Energizing Economic Development,” and will feature 20 speakers representing a variety of different professional fields over the course of the three-day event. The summit is free and open to the public.

“The 2018 Business, Economics and Government Summit is an opportunity to connect West Virginia State University students with state and local leaders in government and business,” said Deborah Williams, interim dean of the College of Business and Social Sciences. “This year's theme, economic development, reflects the important role government has in fostering a diverse, welcoming environment for business development.”

Cabinet Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Commerce Woody Thrasher will open the event on Monday, March 26, at 5:30 p.m. discussing “The Changing Economic Landscape of West Virginia.”

Tuesday, March 27, the summit will feature a full day’s lineup of speakers beginning at 9:30 a.m. and concluding with a keynote address at 5:30 p.m. by Anne Blankenship, executive director of the West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association.

Wednesday, March 28, the summit will once again feature a full lineup of speakers beginning at 9:30 a.m. and concluding at 5:30 p.m. with a keynote address by Dr. Geoffrey Cousins, a surgeon and entrepreneur as owner of Massage Envy.
