The College of Business and Social Sciences at West Virginia State University allows you to connect with a number of professionals committed to helping and serving you with excellence. Many of our major disciplines draw upon facets of each other to create a well-rounded, flexible educational curriculum. Business Administration with concentrations in several areas (i.e., Accounting, Energy Management, Finance, International Business, Marketing, Management, and Management Information Systems), EconomicsHistoryPolitical SciencePsychology, and Sociology & Philosophy are our core areas of emphasis.

You may also accentuate your core education by opting to minor in a number of offerings related to your field of study, thereby increasing your marketability to employers upon graduation. Minors require taking 15-18 credit hours of study. Minors are available in Accounting, Economics, Finance, History, Management, Marketing, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology.

No matter which major you choose, you will receive quality instruction and unique opportunities for an excellent education. Some of our marks of excellence include the fact that our Business Administration and Economics programs have accreditation through the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) while our History, Political Science, and Sociology majors receive recognition for their close research and community involvement programs. Political Science students will have an opportunity to participate in one of the highly acclaimed internship programs. Our outstanding field work in Psychology and our exceptional post-graduate certificate program in Accounting and Energy Management are just a few of the many other ways we aim to surpass your educational expectations.

You will also work closely with dedicated and gifted professors who are committed to providing you with a quality education. Our diverse faculty members engage in continuing research and present papers at regional, national, and international conferences in their fields of specializations and publish their research in peer-reviewed journals – a testament to their commitment to learning and sharing their knowledge with their students and others.

We also have a diverse population of highly motivated students who are involved in a number of student clubs and honor societies. Our alumni are contributing to the welfare of their communities in various capacities and this is a great source of pride.
