The Department of Biology
has been designated by West Virginia State University as a "Peak of Excellence" and as a "Program of Excellence" by the West Virginia State University System Board of Directors.

The Department has 13 full-time Faculty and over 200 students majoring in Biology.

Undergraduate Study in Biology

The Biology Department offers the Bachelor of Science degree with three options: 

Option A: Environmental and Organismal Biology - Advising Sheet 

Option B: Biotechnology and Genetics - Advising Sheet 

Option C: Pre-Medical and Biomedical Sciences - Advising Sheet

*A Minor in Biology is also offered.

Are you are a prospective biology student who cannot take classes during the day?

Beginning in Fall 2013, the Department of Biology will offer their core courses at night in sequence, starting with Biology 120.

Graduate Study in Biotechnology

Housed within the Department of Biology is the Biotechnology Graduate Program started in 2002. Eighteen graduate students are currently active in the program. Seventeen of these graduate students are supported with Graduate Teaching or Research Assistantships. For more information on the Biotechnology Graduate Program, click HERE
