Sherri Shafer, EdS, MA, stepped down as Chair of the Communications & Media Studies department January 2014 to assume the Directorship of the Nontraditional and Regents Bachelor of Arts Programs.  She still serves as a versatile instructor for the Communications and Media Studies Department in television, media writing, public speaking, graduate media management and freshman experience courses.  She is an advisor for the campus chapter of the National Broadcasting Society and Alpha Epsilon Rho (NBS-AERho).  The chapter was recognized as the 2013 National Chapter of the Year and received the 2014 community service award.  Mrs. Shafer was elected as the national President of Alpha Epsilon Rho in March 2014.  In addition, she is active in both community and campus activities including the Career Services Advisory Committee, the Retention and Student Success Council, Academic Program Coordinators Committee, Academic Affairs Council, and the Communications and Media Studies faculty committee.  She continues to write and research while working on her dissertation in Educational Leadership focusing on retention at historically black colleges and universities.
